  17. Anyone remember the `Maps in a Mirror' book by Orson Scott Card where
  18. he wrote a prequel short-story to the `Foundation' series by Isaac
  19. Asimov?  The nifty part of the story was the cross-referencing room in
  20. the Imperial Library, where the ultimate privilege for librarians was
  21. to work in the room.

  23. What happened in the room?  Books, articles, papers, and similar
  24. things were displayed on the librarians computers, and they got to
  25. annotate them.  Phrases that set off associations in their minds were
  26. linked, and the end result was a new set of possible directions for
  27. the documents to be explored in.

  29. I hope the Annotation server can be like this (despite the need for a
  30. wide pipe into the backbone :).  It seems like a good start, at any
  31. rate.

  33. Has anyone considered setting up WAN annotation servers, and those
  34. servers exchanging annotations a-la NNTP?
